The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has begun clearing roads affected by the 7.4 magnitude earthquake that shook Davao Oriental on Friday morning.
In a statement, Secretary Vince Dizon reported that the DPWH’s Quick Response Teams began operations in the province’s landslide-affected areas.
Dizon said he has deployed personnel and additional heavy equipment to immediately clear and reopen affected roads in response to the President’s order to make sure that roads are passable for relief operations.
He also ordered the assessment of other roads, bridges, and public buildings and structures in the affected areas.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the earthquake was also felt in several other parts of Mindanao, including Lanao del Norte.
The tremor’s epicenter was located 62 km. southeast of Manay, Davao Oriental, and had a depth of 23 km.
