SEVERAL Filipinos who want to help victims of the magnitude 6.9 earthquake in Cebu said they prefer to course their donations through television host and comedian Vice Ganda instead of government agencies or private groups.
A netizen identified as SZ Yummy posted on X, formerly Twitter, “Hi, Vice! Getting old in the Philippines is full of uncertainties. Tama ang sabi mo, tayo tayo na lang ang matutulungan. I am personally willing to help. But I wanted to give it through you. Ikaw lang at ang @angatbuhay_ph ang pinagkakatiwalaan ko sa bansang ito.”
Vice Ganda reposted the message and responded, “Nakakaiyak. I will humbly accept your help for the Madlang People. Malaking bagay yan. Di po namin tatanggihan. I will DM you for details. Makakaasa kang mapupunta sa malinis na kamay ang tulong mo. Maraming salamat!”
The post drew support from other social media users who echoed concerns about donations being mishandled by some organizations or individuals.
Among the reactions were calls for Vice Ganda to set up an official donation channel for Cebu quake victims, with one saying, “Meme, possible kaya magkaron ang Showtime ng foundation or account to accept such donation? Kayo na lang please!”
Others noted the public’s trust in Vice Ganda and “It’s Showtime,” citing the show’s long history of helping those in need.
