
It was last spotted 1.075 km. east of Eastern Visayas as of 10 a.m. Tuesday (Sept. 23, 2025) and will be given the local name Opong once it enters the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) this afternoon or evening.
It has maximum sustained winds of 55 km. per hour (kph) near the center and gusts of up to 70 kph. It is moving west at 35 kph.
No tropical cyclone wind signal is hoisted yet.
The tropical depression will generally west northwestward as it approaches Eastern Visayas – Southern Luzon area by Friday (Sept. 26). It is expected to cross the Bicol-Calabarzon-Mimaropa area between Friday and Saturday (Sept. 27) and may leave the PAR on Saturday night.
The cyclone will steadily intensify while over the Philippine Sea and may reach tropical storm category by Wednesday (Sept. 24).
