Max streaming platform expands to Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, Taiwan in November

The platform hosts content from the likes of HBO, Discovery, and Cartoon Network.

In an press release announcement on Tuesday, October 15, multi-billion-dollar media conglomerate Warner Bros. Discovery confirmed the rollout of its steaming service Max to Southeast Asia next month.

Originally launched as HBO Max in 2020, the platform will finally become available in the Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand on November 19, 2024.

Attached to the SEA rollout is the opening of the service to subscribers in Hong Kong and Taiwan.

JB Perrette, CEO and President of Global Streaming & Games at Warner Bros. Discovery said that “Max brings together unparalleled quality content from iconic brands like HBO, Discovery, the DC Universe, Harry Potter, AFN, and Cartoon Network, as well as Hollywood blockbusters all in one place.”

He adds that the Southeast Asia, HK, and Taiwan launch is representative of the next phase of Max’s globalization, as it will now be available in 72 markets and “more to come in 2025.”

Subscription tiers have also been bared, with a mobile-only plan, Standard (for 2 devices, and up to Full HD resolution), Ultimate (for 4 devices, and up to 4K UHD quality).

Existing HBO GO subscribers in the region will then be automatically converted to Max upon launch and enjoy a wider range of viewing options.

Apart from the aforementioned, Max’s library in the United States also includes original productions and programs from popular lifestyle channels HGTV, TLC, Food Network, as well as CNN, the Discovery Channel, and more.

It remains to be seen how much of that will be brought to the Filipino shores come November, as the initial press release only mentiones a multitude of movies and series from the Warner Bros. Pictures catalog.
