The Indonesian government has requested the Philippines an exchange between dismissed Bamban mayor Alice Guo and Australian drug kingpin Gregor Haas, the Department of Justice (DOJ) said.
Remulla confirmed Indonesia’s request after he was asked if the complications he mentioned regarding Guo’s deportation involved the request of the Jakarta police to exchange Guo with drug suspect Gregor Johan Haas.
“Yes, what I mentioned earlier,” Remulla told reporters.
Haas was arrested on May 15 in Bogo, Cebu by the Bureau of Immigration after the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) issued a red notice following a criminal complaint filed against him by Indonesian authorities.
The Australian has been described as a “high-profile fugitive” for being an alleged member of the Sinaloa cartel, an international organized crime syndicate based in Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico involved in drug trafficking and money laundering activities.
Indonesian authorities have implicated Haas in an attempt to smuggle into Indonesia in December a shipment of floor ceramics filled with more than five kilograms of methamphetamine hydrochloride also known as shabu.
