Kinumpirma ng Department of Justice (DOJ) na naaresto ang pinatalsik na si dating Negros Oriental Cong. Arnolfo ‘Arnie’ Teves Jr. sa Timor Leste nitong Huwebes, Marso 21, 2024.
Ayon sa DOJ, si Teves Jr. na itinuturing na ‘terorista’ ng Anti-Terrorism Council ay naaresto sa Dili habang naglalaro ng golf pasado alas-4:00 ng hapon.
Si Teves Jr. ay nahaharap sa multiple murder charges na may kaugnayan sa pagpatay kay Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo at limang iba pa noong Marso 4, 2023.
Ang pagkakaaresto kay Teves ay naging posible sa pinagsanib pwersa ng law enforcement agencies, International Police (INTERPOL), National Central Bureau (NCB) sa Dili, sa pakikipag-koordinasyon sa Timor Leste Police.
“Today’s apprehension of Teves is a testament to the power of international cooperation. It sends a clear message that no terrorist can evade justice and that nations stand united in safeguarding the safety and security of their citizens,” bahagi ng statement ni Justice Sec. Boying Remulla.
Nasa kustodiya ng Timor Leste Police si Teves habang inaasikaso na ang kanyang extradition pabalik ng Pilipinas.
Kaugnay nito, ikinalugod naman ni Pamplona, Negros Oriental Mayor Janice Degamo ang pagkakaaresto kay Teves.
Si Teves ay inisyuhan ng ‘red notice’ ng Interpol nitong Pebrero habang ang Bureau of Immigration sa Pilipinas ay nag-isyu ng dalawang alert list orders laban kay Teves.
Ipinag-utos din ng Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 51 ang agarang pagkansela sa pasaporte ni Teves Jr.
Si Teves Jr. ay ipinatalsik bilang kongresista sa Kamara noong Agosto 2023 dahil sa hindi nito nagagampanan ang kanyang tungkulin at itinuturong mastermind sa pagpatay kay Degamo.
