25 areas in PH possible targets of alleged China hypersonic missile attack – Sen. Marcos

Senator Imee Marcos expressed alarm over China’s alleged plan to use hypersonic missiles against military bases under the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) of the Philippines and the United States.

In a Facebook video, Sen. Marcos claimed to have seen China’s supposed plan outlining an aerial attack using these advanced weapons.

“May nakita ako na plano ng China na gagamitin ‘yung hypersonic missile hindi naman nila iniisip na lulusob dito sa Pilipinas yung katakot-takot na army nila, mga navy nila, hindi ganun. Ang plano, air. Ang plano ‘yung hypersonic missile at nakatakda na ‘yung 25 na target nila,” the senator said.

She did not disclose the source of this information, however she mentioned that hypersonic missiles are capable of traveling five times faster than sound and are difficult to intercept even by countries with advanced defense systems like the United States.

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) said Wednesday it is ready to coordinate with Marcos over her claim.

“The AFP takes such concerns seriously. We are ready to coordinate with Senator Marcos to obtain details and take appropriate actions to ensure our nation’s security,” AFP spokesperson Col. Francel Margareth Padilla said in a message to reporters.
