Authorities on Sunday started implementing the nationwide liquor ban for the 2023 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan, with sale, purchase, serving, and consumption of alcoholic beverages prohibited until election day on October 31.
“It shall be unlawful for any person, including owners and managers of hotels, resorts, restaurants, and other establishments of the same nature, to sell, furnish, offer, buy, serve, or take intoxicating liquor anywhere in the Philippines,” read the Commission on Elections Resolution No. 10746.
Hotels, resorts, restaurants, and other establishments accredited by the Department of Tourism may be exempt from the ban, provided they secure a written authority from the Comelec.
Foreign nationals may purchase and consume alcoholic beverages, but only in authorized establishments expressly exempted from the liquor ban.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) said the enforcement of the liquor ban is crucial to prevent potential commotions or heated altercations during these vital days.
The BSKE campaign period ends on October 28, and the police reminded that campaigning is strictly prohibited on Sunday to ensure a peaceful and orderly election process.
Millions are expected to flock to voting precincts on Monday for the barangay and SK polls that will start from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m.
